Working together for positive change: Our vision is a society where we can all make a difference to the causes that we believe in.
Our Mission
The Living Centre’s mission is to place faith, capacity, skills, knowledge and understanding of the arts and heritage at the heart of work with, for and by individuals, families and communities particularly those struggling with resilience. The aim is to improve outcomes for all, increasing wellbeing, connected and thriving communities and wholesome environment. We care for people as well as our environment.
We have a holistic approach, committed to working with people to make a positive difference to all areas of people’s lives. Our work is local, national and international.
Our Values and Principles
Our values and principles shape and guide how we behave, engage with others, make decisions and deliver services. Our work is guided by the following:
Inclusive: We work with you to amplify your voice, building on ‘what you can do’ to increase access and opportunities, reducing and eliminating barriers where they exist
Creative: As a learning organisation, we work with you to explore new ideas and approaches, looking for what will add real value to your life and that of communities. Creativity is a tool that help us to increase our effectiveness
Collaborate: We believe in co-production, endeavouring to work with and through people, communities and key stakeholders to improve life chances and support wellbeing using people’s strengths.
Integrity: We do what is best for our members, staff, volunteers and partners by being open, honest and respectful, maintaining dignity at all times.
Innovative: We engage creatively with our members and partners to design and deliver interventions that are effective, have members at the centre. We aim for interventions that are sustainable and scalable.
COMMITMENTS:
We demonstrate active commitment to the following
The Living Centre started as a direct response to support spiritual, emotional, mental, physical and social wellbeing of individuals, families and communities who had lost hope and motivation in their lives and immediate surroundings.
The organisation spent time listening to personal ‘story’ of concerns, frustrations and struggles; in all these accounts there was ‘embers’ of hope –concealed or revealed. From these embers a spark of ‘the possible’ was ignited based on the premises that positive change was possible by believing and working together – one step at a time.
Since then we have worked with people in an ever-changing social context.
The Living Centre is governed by a voluntary board of Trustees with the right mix of skills and experience bringing expertise and wisdom to our decision making. Our users’ views and involvement are at the centre of what we do. The group provides inclusive leadership and strategic direction to ensure the vision and mission of the organisation is dispensed effectively.
STAFF & VOLUNTEER
The bulk of our work over the years has been delivered through creative collaboration and partnerships, the resource from volunteers and donations. In this stead, our income threshold has been relatively low, though the value of the in-kind contributions far outweighs what is reflected in our annual accounts. The increasing demand for our work, together with the need to scale up and reach out to a wider audience, has now made it necessary to have a more diverse funding strategy. We are currently working to raise finance to employ a team of paid workers in order to sustain and future proof our work.
